Iron/Rust in Water—Iron in water can stain sinks and laundry and collect in pipes and water-using appliances, which leads to clogged filters, pipes, and shower heads over time. Lead enters drinking water primarily as a result of corrosion or wearing away of materials in the water distribution system and household plumbing that contain lead. Lead is a concern because it is a toxic metal that can cause immediate effects at high doses and long term effects if it builds up in the body over many years.

PFOA and PFOS are also known as perfluorooctanoic acid and perfluorooctanesulfonic acid is becoming a big concern throughout Michigan. The health risks of exposure to the chemicals include developmental effects to fetuses during pregnancy or to breastfed infants, cancer, liver effects, immune effects, thyroid effects, and more.
